Hotel for Cats began with one simple idea: cats deserve more than cages and kennels.
The concept was created by Holly Bathgate, a lifelong cat lover working at her family’s veterinary practice, Blakehurst Vet. The idea took shape 16 years ago when a long-time client asked if we could care for her cat for two months while she travelled to Europe. At the time, the only option was a cage in the vet clinic, and Holly simply couldn’t agree to it.
That moment sparked a vision for something entirely new in Sydney cat boarding: spacious, beautifully designed suites with televisions, climbing shelves and room for cats to stretch, play and relax. A place created entirely around feline comfort, not human convenience.
From Idea to Reality
When the space next door to the clinic became available for rent, Holly seized the opportunity. She designed a series of custom rooms and engaged a local carpenter to build them, creating the very first Hotel for Cats, a small but revolutionary concept that redefined luxury Sydney cat boarding.
In the early days, only one cat stayed in the first two months, but word quickly spread about this new style of cat accommodation. Before long, Sydney’s cats were checking in for their own holidays.
Today
Sixteen years later, the Hotel has grown into a purpose-built facility on King Georges Road, complete with spacious suites, televisions, cat wheels, climbing shelves and natural light.
Today, Hotel for Cats stands proudly as Sydney’s premier cat hotel, a benchmark in luxury Sydney cat boarding, born from one woman’s vision, creativity and deep love for cats.
Corey Tanswell
Corey, our fabulous Hotel Manager, has extensive experience in animal handling and facilities management, with an impressive career spanning country NSW and Sydney. He is also a whisker away from being a qualified vet nurse. We are so lucky to have Corey at the Hotel for Cats. The guests know that and so do their families.
Corey has become renowned among our two, three and four-legged guests for his professional, friendly demeanour and unwavering dedication to providing the highest level of care. He leads a team of devoted cat lovers who are trained to ensure every aspect of your cat’s stay is filled with love, attention and fun.

Wendy Phillips
Wendy brings a strong background in animal care, behaviour and client support to her role as Assistant Manager. Before joining us, she worked across foster care, volunteer coordination and senior animal handling, developing a thoughtful and confident approach to caring for animals and supporting the people who love them.
Working closely with Corey, our Hotel Manager, Wendy helps ensure the hotel runs smoothly each day. She has a calm presence, an eye for detail and a natural warmth that helps every guest feel settled and every owner feel reassured.
Her professionalism, kindness and genuine love of cats make her an invaluable part of the Hotel for Cats team.
